Service Learning

Service-Learning lets you take your learning out into the community. By signing up for courses that offer a service component, you will not only cover the normal course content but also have the opportunity to work in a community-based organization or nonprofit agency and apply what you learn in class. At the same time you will be helping to make the world a better place. Students have worked with environmental organizations, government agencies, hospitals, community groups, animal shelters, schools and many other organizations and agencies. BCC’s Got Math? and WordPlay programs in elementary schools, After School—Arts and Nature at the Christian Center, are also components of the college’s Service-Learning Program.

Three people were at work on a construction site. All were doing the same job, but when each was asked what his job was, the answers were varied. "Breaking rocks," the first replied. "Earning my living," the second said. "Helping to build a cathedral," said the third. -Peter Schultz

If I am not for myself, who will be for me?
If I am for myself only, what am I?
If not now—when?
-Babylonian Talmud
