Pell Grant
Like other grants, the Federal Pell Grant provides
free money that can be applied to college expenses and does not
have to be repaid.
The Federal Processor determines your eligibility
for this grant, and it can be awarded to students who have not earned
a bachelor's degree. It is generally the largest source of free
money for college expenses and is available to non-priority as well
as priority applicants. You can get other kinds of aid without being
eligible for a Pell Grant. Pell Grant amounts are based on your
need and enrollment status; for 2006-2007, Pell Grant awards at
BCC range from $400 to $4,050. You can receive a Pell Grant if you
are enrolled less than full-time, but you won't receive as much.
For example, a half-time student would receive 50% of their award.
Depending on your need, you could take as few as 3 credits and still
be considered for a Pell Grant.
Pell Grants can be applied to toward tuition, fee,
book, and insurance charges.
The BCC Student Billing Office credits Pell Grants
to student accounts once each semester. Any grant funds in excess
of your total charges will be refunded to you by mail generally
30 days after the beginning of each semester and on a rolling basis
thereafter.
