Adaptive Computer Lab
BCC provides you with access to computer technology
through specially designed adaptive equipment.
The adaptive computer lab has four l computers all
with Pentium II processors. Windows 2003, Microsoft Office, Word,
Power Point and Excel are installed on all the computers.

Other Hardware/Software:
Dragon Naturally Speaking
Preferred - a voice recognition system that allows conversion
of spoken word to text. It is helpful if you have little use of
your hands and need an alternative to keyboard control.
Dragon Dictate
- Same as above but can be used hands-free with voice commands and
mouse control.
Franklin Speaking Ace
- This hand-held electronic device allows you to enter a word the
way it sounds, and the Speaking Ace returns the correct spelling.
It then pronounces it aloud. This is helpful if you have a learning
disability.
Inspiration -
a software program that allows you to crate a mind map for organizing
your thoughts. You place your thoughts in bubbles on a computer
screen, which you can link by related themes. The computer can place
your work in an outline and on overheads for presentations. It is
particularly helpful if you have a written language disability.
JAWS 4.5 NT - a Windows-based
screen reading package for people who are blind. JAWS converts electronic
text into voice an dprovides easy access to the internet through
Internet Explorer.
Kurzweil 3000 & 1000
- PC based reading systems that can aid you if you are blind or
print impaired. The machine reads printed material and converts
text into voice.
Optelec -
A 20/20 video magnification system for the visually impaired. It
magnifies printed material 3 to 60 times the original size.
Talking Typer - is a
keyboarding software program that uses your sound card to instruct,
drill, practice, and play games with typing lessons. It is generally
used by people who are blind or who have very low vision.
TextHelp - Is
software for perfect word processing. With vocalised Text @ it talks
as you type. It is ideal if you have dyslexia or other learning
disabilities.
ZoomText Level 2 XTRA 8.0
- is designed for low vision users. It features synchronized magnification
and screen reading that's powerful and easy to use. It speaks all
on-screen text, echoes typing and automatically reads multi-page
documents.
4-Track Desktop Audio Cassette
Players: These cassette players enable you to listen
to specially recorded textbooks from Recording for the blind &
Dyslexics audio library.
Plus 20 microcassette recorders
with counters: These recorders are for loan by the semester
for students whose disability impacts their ability to take comprehensive
lecture notes.
